Q:
What is the difference between the 479S-6 and 479S-6A generators?
A:

The 479S-6A has additional features and functions that do not exist on the 479S-6. The primary difference is that the 479S-6A can also be used to test VHF Comm Radios.

Q: How long will it take to get my unit back once I send it in for modification?
A:

Our normal turnaround is 1 week. Additional time may be required for equipment to be calibrated at time of order.

Q:
I really need my unit back on my bench ASAP. Can you expedite my order any quicker?
A:

Yes. In most cases we can expedite the retrofit and return your unit within 24 hours. There is an additional charge of $150.00 for this service. If calibration is to be done, we may not be able to guarantee a 24 hour turnaround.

Q:
Do I have to ship the entire unit or can I ship only the front panel?
A: Customers may save on shipping costs by sending only the front panel assembly. PLEASE NOTE: Without receiving the entire unit, we will not be able to verify the operation of your generator. We will only be able to test your front panel – before and after the retrofit modification.

Q:
How much does a boxed Collins 479S-6 generator weigh?
A:

Approximately 45 lbs, depending on shipping container

Q: How much does a boxed Collins 479S-6 Front Panel (less generator) weigh?
A: Approximately 5 lbs, depending on shipping container

Q: Where should I send my equipment for retrofit if I would also like to have a calibration done at the same time?
A:

We will provide a list of calibration facilities that you may choose from. Upon receipt of your equipment, the calibration facility selected will perform a basic functionality check. If the equipment checks out, they will then ship us your front panel for modification. Once we have completed the modifications, we will ship the panel back to the calibration facility where it will be reassembled. The calibration facility will return your modified and freshly calibrated equipment back to you via your preferred shipping method.

Q: How do I know which Panel Retrofit I need if the model number on my existing front panel is illegible?
A:

There should be an ID Tag located on the underside of the unit. It should indicate if your unit is a 479S-6 or 479S-6A. Another way to tell is by looking at the upper portion of the front panel in the “MODE” section. The 479S-6A units have a “COMM” segment whereas the 479S-6 does not.

Q: What if my unit does not work properly after receiving it back from modification?
A:

We do a basic functional test prior to beginning any modifications. If the unit does not perform at a basic level, we will not proceed with any modifications without written consent from the customer.

Q: Who does the calibration and how long is it good for?
A: All of our calibrations are done by certified partner repair facilities located across the country. Unless otherwise specified, calibration periods are 1 year.

Q: What payment options do you offer?
A:

You may elect to make payment by one of the following methods:

  • Company Check (please allow 10 days for new customers)
  • Certified Check or Money Order
  • Net-30 Terms (allow 3-5 days for approval)
  • Online via Paypal. If you don’t already have a Paypal account, you can set one up quickly at the time of payment. Most credit cards are accepted by Paypal.
